Pago de Carraovejas Winery

Pago de Carraovejas Winery

Pago de Carraovejas is the origin. This project was born from its first nine hectares that aspires to turn a dream into a benchmark winery within the Ribera del Duero. The beginning of its career dates back more than three decades, when Pago de Carraovejas was born in response to José María Ruiz's aspiration to create a great wine in one of the areas with the most potential at the moment.

The story of José María and the world of wine has its starting point a few years earlier, in 1971, when he attended the 'First World Sommelier Competition' held in Milan as a Spanish representative. This is how the history of Pago de Carraovejas begins, when in 1987 the winery was established in Peñafiel, more specifically on the slopes of Carraovejas. The first vintage, in 1991, of just 70,000 kilos from the first 25 hectares in production, marks the origin of Pago de Carraovejas. The second generation is the scope of what was an ambitious dream, over the years it greatly exceeds the expectations at its beginnings and it is in 2007 when a new stage begins with the incorporation of Pedro Ruiz to the project.

The new leadership arrives with a fresh business perspective that, given the exponential growth of Pago de Carraovejas, decides to set new challenges in the areas of sustainability, as a criterion that should guide the company's activity; innovation, as an engine of development and progress; or wine tourism, as a way of opening the project to all its clients with transparency and honesty. The direction of Pedro Ruiz represents the beginning of a new path under the concept of Alma Carraovejas.
