Petit Verdot is a red grape variety originating in France, traditionally associated with the Bordeaux region, where it is one of the varieties used in classic Bordeaux blends.

It is a late-ripening variety, so it requires sufficiently warm climates and long growing seasons to reach proper maturity. For this very reason, it has found favorable conditions in numerous Spanish wine-growing regions.

It produces wines with very intense color, full body, high concentration, and significant tannic structure. Its distinctive character means that it has traditionally been used in small proportions to add color, structure, and complexity to other wines, although excellent single-variety Petit Verdot wines are also now available.

On the nose, it can present aromas of ripe black fruit, blackberry, plum, violet, spices, herbs, and balsamic notes. With oak aging, it can develop nuances of cocoa, coffee, cedar, tobacco, and spices.

In Spain, it is grown especially in warm-climate regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Andalusia, and parts of eastern Spain, where conditions allow it to better complete its long ripening cycle.
